Ossining Town Councilman Peter Tripodi plans to challenge Westchester County Legislator Catherine Borgia, D-Ossining, for her seat in November, he announced Monday.
To enter the race for county legislator, Tripodi will not seek re-election to his town board post, he said.
Here’s the text of his announcement:
Ossining Town Councilman Not Seeking Reelection.
Ossining Town Councilman Peter Tripodi, the sole elected Republican in both the Town and Village of Ossining has stated his intention not to seek reelection. Instead, Councilman Tripodi has announced his intention to unseat incumbent Democrat Catherine Borgia for the position of Westchester County Legislator. “I think we need to change the impression of our County’s legislative chamber from circus to serious”, Tripodi said. “When my so-called ‘representative’ walked out on her job last December and did not vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on a budget for our County I was perplexed and in disbelief. These kind of political actions have no place in Westchester County government. We need less party politics and a more results-driven government. As the only elected Republican on the 5 member Ossining Town Board I have participated in bi-partisan government. I know the meaning of consensus-building, spirited and healthy debate, as well as meaningful solutions to get things done.”
Tripodi intends to announce his candidacy on Saturday May 11th, 2013, at 11:00 am. The location is at the former Town of Ossining facility, 507 North St Rd., Briarcliff Manor NY 10510. “The announcement’s location alone symbolizes this campaign —bipartisan and sound government actions. The decision to sell that facility was made only after the exit of my opponent from the Town Board. This was a bipartisan solution that directly benefited the Town taxpayers.”
