News from Briarcliff High School….
The Empire State School Press Association (ESSPA) has awarded Briarcliff High School’s Briars & Ivy literary magazine top awards in several categories.
In addition to several individuals being recognized for their journalism and artistic work, the magazine won a Silver Award for Best All-Around Literary Magazine. Sophomore David Kaminsky and alumni Samm Kim and Sophie Phillips received Gold Awards for art; junior Jessica Daneshvar won a Silver Award for her cover design; junior Laura Birnbaum and alumnus Mana Takayama won Silver Awards for layout; and Sophie Phillips won a Bronze Award for her oil painting.
Briarcliff High School English teachers Karen McCarthy and Jeremy Shulman, co-advisors of Briars & Ivy, are proud of their student’s achievements. “These awards speak to the hard work and dedication of the Briars & Ivy staff and their commitment to presenting the best artistic talents of the Briarcliff High School student body,” said Ms. McCarthy.
ESSPA provides education, resources and recognition to aspiring high school journalists in the state. ESSPA award winners are announced at the state conference held each fall at Syracuse University.
