The second annual Hanna Monte Benefit Concert will take place at the Katonah Library June 22.
All proceeds will benefit the Hanna’s Scholars fund of the Good For Kids Foundation, which was founded by former Somers school Superintendent Joanne Marien and her colleague Student Advisor Anne Harris. The Hanna’s Scholars fund sponsors underprivileged girls living in the refugee camp, La Carpio, in Costa Rica. Monte died after a difficult battle with cancer at the age of 20.
Each scholarship provides one student with the books, uniform, transportation and additional support that they need in order to attend school for one year.
“Education is one of the only paths of hope for these girls in dire situations,” explains Marien, adding that “just $150 will support one girl for an entire year, making a huge difference in their lives.”
The concert will feature violinist Irie Monte and pianist David Chang performing works by Mozart and Vitali. It will feature several of Monte’s students performing the pieces that have been working on throughout the year. Wine and hor d’oeuvres will be served.
Concert begins at 6:30. Cost: $20, adults; $10, students. Tickets sold at the door. The concert is at the Katonah Library, Main Street in Katonah.
