Nathan Brauning, age 6, (below) watches as Dr. Pete Richel, chief of pediatrics at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, gives the boy’s bear a checkup at the recent Teddy Bear Clinic in the hospital’s Emergency Department.
Children ages 3 and up were invited to bring their favorite stuffed animal to the Teddy Bear Clinic where physicians and nurses gave them check-ups and demonstrated casting, suturing, IV therapy, X-rays, and more.
The annual Teddy Bear Clinic is part of Family Day at Northern Westchester Hospital’s Mary & David Boies Emergency Department where visitors were also able to tour ambulances and attend a bike safety workshop.
Of the 29,000 patients treated at the NWH Emergency Department every year, 28% or approx. 8,000, are children. All Emergency Department physicians at Northern Westchester Hospital have training in pediatrics.
