Stephanie Muson, PhD, an eighth grade social studies teacher, has been named Briarcliff Manor Teacher of the Year, Neal Miller, the district’s superintendent has announced.

Dr. Muson’s expertise in teaching is evident every day in her 8th grade social studies classroom. She seamlessly blends content knowledge with the development of reading, writing, organization and research skills into student centered activities designed to foster critical thinking as well as meeting standards for 21st century learning. The result is an engaging, constructivist classroom where students find history comes to life through collaborative activities, stimulations and thoughtful discussions.
Dr. Muson plays an active role in our school community. In addition to piloting and supporting a number of district and building inititives, Dr. Muson serves as a curriculum leader for social studies. Her particular strength in instructional technology is reflected in the number of professional development workshops and traning sessions she offers. This strength is also reflected in Dr. Muson’s recent doctoral study which was conducted at the middle school, providing students with cutting edge instructional models and adding to the collective knowledge in the field of teaching and learning.
