Majority Leader Peter Harckham reports that he spoke to his opponent Peter Michaelis who conceded today. In the announcement, Harckham praised Michaelis and called him a friend.
Here’s the release in its entirety:
Following the announcement earlier today by the Westchester Board of Elections that it had totals from 100% of the polling locations in the 2nd Legislative District, County Legislator Pete Harckham (D, I-Katonah) received a congratulatory phone call from his opponent Peter Michaelis (R, C-Bedford).
After Mr. Michaelis’ concession, Legislator Harckham said:
“I just received a call of congratulations from Peter Michaelis. We had a lengthy and friendly conversation. I consider Peter a friend and greatly respect all that he has done for Bedford. He ran a great campaign and he should be proud of his efforts.
I look forward to serving the people of northern Westchester for another two years. I am humbled by the support of the voters. I remain committed to continue working in a bipartisan manner to reduce the size and cost of county government, to protect our families and to safeguard our environment.”
Unofficial results posted on the Board of Elections website show Harckham ahead by 810 votes, leading 55% – 45%. There are a number of absentee ballots remaining to be counted, but not enough to affect the outcome of election.
