The Village of Briarcliff Manor’s Planning Board will continue to hear comments from the public about a proposed 14,000-square-foot pharmacy for CVS as part of renovations to the Chilmark Shopping Center on Pleasantville Road.
The meeting is at 7:30 tonight in the Village Hall courtroom.
The center owner Urstadt-Biddle has said that the aging center needs to be upgraded and proposes changes to the buildings (including additional retail space) and parking areas. A vacant bank building adjacent to the center will be torn down to make way for the new pharmacy, which developers say will hold a CVS pharmacy. There is an independent pharmacy in the center already which will be allowed to remain or end his lease early, Urstadt-Biddle has said. Other merchants, Radio Shack, Dress Barn and Carvel are expected to shift locations.
Some local residents have attended meetings saying the larger center would choke the neighborhood with increased car traffic and truck deliveries. They say the new project will not fit in with the area. The center also has an A&P supermarket and it is unclear whether this retailer will remain or not.
The Planning Board has received many public comments and at its meeting last month decided to keep the public hearing open.
For those not able to attend, the meeting will be televised and comments can also be made in writing to the Planning Board, Village of Briarcliff Manor, Village Hall, 1111 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. 10510.
