Food Bank for Westchester’s Third Annual Give-Back Olympics Yields Over 26,500 Pounds of Food for the Hungry
Millwood, NY – The Food Bank for Westchester, which has been fighting hunger for 23 years, recently hosted the Third Annual Give-Back Olympics to help raise awareness of hunger and reaffirm corporate commitment to local hunger-relief efforts.
Ten corporate teams of up to 20 employees competed against one another to repack the most pounds of elbow macaroni from bulk quantity to two-pound bags in one hour. Participants were: Bunge, Capital Bank, Kraft Foods, MBIA Foundation, MediaVest, PepsiCo, Pernod Ricard USA, Regeneron, Stop & Shop and Webster Bank.
Because so many teams competed this year, the event was held over two days. At the end of the second day, the Stop & Shop team emerged victorious, having packed a whopping 3,218 pounds of macaroni in one hour. Stop & Shop will be presented with the coveted Golden Scoop Award at the Food Bank’s Sixth Annual Hunger Hero Awards Breakfast Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 8:30 am, at the Tappan Hill Mansion, Tarrytown.
“The corporate Give-Back Olympics is a friendly competition that provides a great way for corporations to get involved in the fight against hunger,” said Christina Rohatynskyj, Executive Director, Food Bank for Westchester. “The competing teams repacked more than 26,500 pounds of macaroni in only three hours for hungry people.”
The Food Bank for Westchester is located at 358 Saw Mill River Road, Millwood, NY 10546.
