Grafflin student brings air gun to school
Principal Michael G. Kirsch put out this notice about the incident:
May 6, 2011Dear Grafflin Parents,
Earlier today a Grafflin student displayed an airsoft pistol to several older students while they were in the cafetorium before school opened. I learned that these devices shoot pellets and, according to the New Castle Police, they are not permitted, in New York State, to be in the possession of youths under the age of 16. While this was not a “real” gun, it is certainly something that should never have been brought to school.
None of the children were threatened. The students did the right thing by immediately informing their teacher. Mrs. Alspach and I were called in and we took possession of the airsoft pistol.
The New Castle Police were directly involved in this serious matter, as was the parent of the youngster who brought the airsoft to school. Appropriate disciplinary measures have been taken.
It is certainly unfortunate that several of our children were put in the position of seeing this airsoft in school. Also, as you may tell from this letter, we will not tolerate anything like this at Grafflin School. School always needs to be a very safe place!
Sincerely,
Michael G. Kirsch
Principal
