The New Castle Town Board has announced that it will go forward Tuesday, March 22, with the public hearings on the zoning changes that would authorize a new housing development at the former Reader’s Digest property even though the Final Environmental Impact Statement will not be complete before the end of next week.
The Town Board is expected to continue the hearings to April 4, the announcement says, to give the public the opportunity to review the FEIS before final comments are made. The board is trying to wrap up work on the review of the property owner’s request to build 199 condos and townhouses on the Digest property, renamed Chappaqua Crossing. Summit Development and Greenfield Partners bought the Digest property in 2004.
Tuesday’s meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 200 South Greeley Ave., Chappaqua.
Once complete, the FEIS will be posted on the New Castle web site, www.mynewcastle.org. The five laws needed to approve the development are also available there. Background documents are at chappaquacrossingreview.mynewcastle.org.
