If the folks at Axial Theatre get it right, you might take your seat in an Episcopal Church in Pleasantville but soon be swept away to a swanky SoHo lounge.
Axial’s spring gala fund-raiser, at 7 p.m. April 2, will be an evening of food, fun and song, with a cabaret-style concert by the Axial Songbirds, a DJ dance fest, a live auction and Tarot readings, plus gourmet hors d’oeuvres, desserts and wines catered by the award-winning 12 Grapes.
The benefit will be where Axial performs, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 8 Sunnyside Ave., Pleasantville.
The Axial Songbirds — Ann Gulian, Aisling Dono, Adam Glatzl and Jess Erick — will have their way with standards and torch songs, with musical direction by Gulian, a lauded singer in her own right. Auction items as a four-night getaway at a luxurious Bahamian condo. DJ Gus Zucco will invite all to mix it up on the dance floor and Gail Greenstein — an Axial actor — will offer surprising Tarot card readings.
The 12-year-old Axial Theatre is part lab, part collaborative, part performance troupe, presenting short plays by local talent twice a year. For reservations, call 914-286-7680 or go to the Axial Theatre website.
