Chappaqua’s Merry Sun to be honored in Washington D.C. with Davidson Fellows scholarship

Posted by: Elizabeth Ganga - Posted in Chappaqua, schools on Sep 15, 2010

Horace Greeley High School student Merry Sun, 16, will be honored on Capitol Hill for her showing in the competition for scholarships from the Davidson Institute for Talent Development.

One of 20 students to win a scholarship, Sun impressed the judges with her project studying therapeutic ultrasound’s potential in treating recurrent and metastatic cancers. She was able to demonstrate the treatment’s potential in inducing the immune system to attack the tumor. She will receive a $25,000 scholarship.

The award ceremony will be Sept. 29 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. The students will also meet with their congressional representatives to discuss the challenges faced by gifted students. The Institute’s mission is to “recognize, nurture and support profoundly intelligent young people.”
