New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan is expected in Somers this Friday to celebrate Mass at Kennedy Catholic.
He will honor the new school year.
Sept. 10 is the first full day of classes at the school and traditionally this begins with a Mass. Dolan will arrive for the 10 a.m. Mass and afterwards will also have a chance to speak with students and faculty.
“While it’s always a special occasion when the Archbishop comes to your school,” said the Rev. Mark Vaillancourt, president of Kennedy Catholic, “this is even more so considering all that we’ve been able to accomplish in our first year as a private school, especially the excitement surrounding our new and much-needed athletic fields.”
The school sits on 59 acres off Route 138 and is moving some athletic fields to accommodate the construction of a 35,000-square-foot ecclesiastic center for St. Joseph’s Church of Croton Falls that will merge the congregation’s four worship sites.
The school has begun constructing a new baseball diamond. This fall contractors will break ground on a synthetic turf, multi-use field behind the main athletic field. It is also the school’s first year as a private school.
