Westchester and Putnam County Legislators declare MTA Mobility Tax Unconstituional
Westchester County Legislator John G. Testa, is joined at a press conference at the Cortlandt Train Station in Cortlandt by Putnam County Legislature Chairman Vinny Tamagna, as Testa declared the MTA Mobility Tax unconstitutional Aug. 13, 2010. “The taxpayers of Westchester County have simply had enoungh”, remarked Testa. “Even before this outrageous payroll tax was passed by the State last year the Westchester taxpayers already contributed $165 million to the MTA through fees and taxes.”

A pay roll tax to support a mass tranist system which does not support the employers and workers in regions it does not serve is ludicris on the face and ignoble in nature (much as the politicians are who fostered it).
Should the NYC MTA need to be supported by a tax on Westchester & Putnam County residents the MTA should be required to provide further and deeper reaching services to Westchester and Putnam Residents.
East West Transit Service connecting Phillipstown, Cold Spring, Garrison, Putnam Valley, Kent, Carmel, Lake Carmel, Mahopac, Patterson, Southeast and Brewster with well marked and identifiable bus shelters and routes would be the apprpriate place to start. After all Putnam County already has rail links to the Bronx andf Manhattan.
