Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry awarded United Way grant
Here’s an announcement on a United Way grant for a Kisco food pantry:
(Mount Kisco, NY, June 30, 2010) The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry has been awarded a $1000 Local Presence Grant from the United Way of Westchester and Putnam. With the award, United Way recognizes that the food pantry’s work helps maintain stability for area residents by providing for basic needs that keep individuals and families on track during tough times.“The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry provides vital assistance to the local community,” noted Naomi Adler, president and CEO of United Way of Westchester and Putnam. “For some area residents, who must make tough decisions about whether or not to put food on the table or pay rent, the option of free, nutritious food can really help them until they regain their financial footing, especially in this economy.”
The Local Presence grants are awarded to organizations in local communities that provide critical services in line with one or more of United Way’s three building blocks for a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, income that can support a family through retirement, and good health.
“We are delighted with the grant from United Way, which serves as a seal of approval for the work we are doing,” said Heather Baker-Sullivan, Executive Director of the pantry. “We look forward to collaborating with the United Way in continuing to provide a critical safety net to our neighbors in need.”
The Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry is a non-profit alliance of 12 member churches and synagogues, currently based at the United Methodist Church of Mt. Kisco. Since its founding in 1991, the pantry has provided emergency food aid to families and individuals in the greater Mt. Kisco area. The client population includes many low-income families with children, as well as retirees struggling to make ends meet. The pantry’s goal is to provide the typical family-of-four enough nutritious food for three days worth of complete meals. Individuals and families can receive food once each week, every week of the month. This meets a critical need, as it is the only food pantry in the greater Mt. Kisco area with weekly distributions.
