The Chappaqua School District sent out a letter this week to update parents and community members on the search for a new superintendent to replace David Fleishman. Read below:
Dear Community member,
The Chappaqua Central School District’s (CCSD) Board of Education has asked School Leadership, LLC to assist it in its search for a successor to Dr. David Fleishman, who announced in February his intention to resign as the Superintendent effective at the end of the current school year. Dr. Fleishman will be returning to Massachusetts to assume the Superintendent’s position in Newton.
The Board is establishing a Superintendent search process that first includes input from all district stakeholders including residents with students in the schools, residents without current students, district administrators, teachers, other staff members and students. School Leadership’s Principal, Dr. Charles Fowler, will be meeting with a variety of community groups, staff groups and individuals in order to solicit their input and report the results of those meetings to the Board.
In addition to the small group meetings, Dr. Fowler will host an open community meeting on Thursday, April 22, 2010, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Horace Greeley High School. Persons unable to attend this meeting can provide input by utilizing an online survey, the link to which will be found on the District’s website, www.ccsd.ws.
With the input in hand, the Board anticipates identifying a set of specifications and criteria to guide it in selecting a new Superintendent. The Board will then consider possible candidates from within the staff of the school district. If the Board, following interviews and other screening, believes that there is a qualified candidate or candidates, the Board will proceed further with the goal of making an appointment. If there is not an internal candidate that meets the qualifications, the Board will proceed with a wider search. We expect to make this determination by the end of May 2010. Should the Board determine that a wider search is necessary, procedures for that search will be announced at that time.
The Board values community input and hopes that as many members of the community participate as can so that we may receive as broad a spectrum of opinion as possible. We will be distributing more details about the community meeting, the group meetings, and the online survey shortly. Community members may also, at any time, submit their input to the Board via our email address, firstname.lastname@example.org.
