The Educated Palate Opens Season Canadian-Style
Yorktown Heights — The Educated Palate, a restaurant run by Culinary students on the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES’ campus, will open its doors to diners on Thursday, January 14, 2010, with a four-course meal of Canadian cuisine.
The Educated Palate is operated entirely by students in The Tech Center’s Hospitality Career Academy, a program accredited by the Association for Career and Technical Education. Students in the Hospitality Career Academy learn all aspects of Culinary and Pastry Arts, while fulfilling high school graduation requirements in English, math, and social studies. Running the restaurant requires Culinary students to purchase, prepare, and serve food to local diners monthly throughout the winter and spring, and it provides the students with hands-on, experiential learning. It also offers area residents a unique opportunity to visit the BOCES Yorktown campus for a superb dining experience at a reasonable price.
Additional restaurant dates are: Mardi Gras cuisine on Thursday, February 11; Asian Infusion cuisine on Thursday, March 11; April in Paris cuisine on Thursday, April 15; and Caribbean Infusion cuisine on Thursday, May 13.
Seating capacity is limited, and interest is traditionally high, so advanced reservations, within one month of the desired restaurant day, are required. The cost is $25 per person, and reservations will be honored once full payment via check is received. Checks should be made payable to Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES and mailed to The Educated Palate, Culinary Arts/Hospitality Academy, Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, 200 BOCES Drive, Yorktown Heights, New York 10598, attention Rose Mary Impieri, Tech South.
